The thermostat kit includes the following components:
– 3-way housing, open, 74-85 (without thermostat insert)
– Thermostat (opening at 72 degrees)
– Gasket on the water tee
Installation Instructions for Thermostat Kit 74–85 HP Version – FIAT 124 Spider
Around 1974, the cooling system of the FIAT 124 Spider was modified: a bypass system was introduced, and the thermostat was relocated from the cylinder head to a 3-way housing.
With this thermostat kit, we reverse that change: the thermostat is once again mounted directly in the cylinder head.
Installation Steps:
Preparing the Gasket:
Shape the gasket slightly conically as shown in Image 3, so that the radius at the bottom becomes a little smaller. This makes it easier to insert the gasket into the cylinder head.
Installing the Thermostat:
Make sure that the longer part of the thermostat disappears completely into the cylinder head.
Mounting the Thermostat Housing:
Attach the thermostat housing and reconnect the cooling system by installing the water T-piece.
Installing the 3-Way Housing:
The 3-way housing can be installed according to your preference.
Since this housing no longer contains a thermostat insert, the installation direction is not critical.
